Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language

Ukrainians celebrate the day of their language and literature on the 9th of November. This is a crucial and vital date for us, as our language is the gene of our nation and reveals our unique personality.

Some quick facts about the Ukrainian language:

• The Ukrainian language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It is native to 37 million people and second native to another 15 million.

• Ukrainian language is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. At a language competition in Italy, it was recognized as the second most melodic language in the world (after Italian).

• The modern Ukrainian language has three main dialects: northern, southwestern and southeastern.

On this day all Ukrainians wear traditional clothes, called VUSHYVANKA (embroidered shirt)  and sing national songs.

In order to celebrate this day properly, Ukrainians organized ''Ukrainian corner'' in the Marie Curie Building. Students also had an opportunity to check out Ukrainian writers and read famous quotes in the library. Posters in Ukrainian about its history and culture were posted in the Healthy Planet cafe, Marie Curie and Rustaveli Buildings.

With Ukraine in our hearts!
