Middle School Principal’s Welcome Letter|
Greetings! My name is Victoria Banks and I am the Upper Years principal for the New School, International School of Georgia. I am excited about our Middle Years programme here at New School. Our curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate programme, one of the most prestigious and dynamic K-12 programmes offered in international schools today. The IB programme has received outstanding reviews from top universities around the world. Universities know that the IB graduates are often better prepared for the rigors of higher education. New School bases its own mission and philosophy on that of the IB programme. So what makes our Middle Years programme here at New School exceptional? The Middle Years programme focuses on students from ages 11 – 16. As this is a time of transition and change for the developing adolescent, New School, through trained, professional educators, ensures that each student will receive individual and personalized attention in a safe and caring atmosphere. Our staff is dedicated to guiding students towards a positive self-image and a healthy lifestyle. In addition, New School aims to develop students with the attitudes, skills and motivation necessary to become successful lifelong learners. In the Middle Years programme, students receive a balanced and academically challenging education. Our intention is to develop creative, independent, and critical thinkers. Students gain knowledge from all subjects through areas of educational interaction and apply it to their lives. Through hands on constructive lessons, integrated teaching, presentations, festivals, field trips, and student life, learning becomes exciting, interesting, and fun! We believe in the success of each student. Students are continually involved in their own education as partners with teachers through portfolios and projects. Both teacher and student assessments provide continual feedback and are based on specified criterion that corresponds to the objective for each subject. Tomorrow’s leaders are today’s young people. We believe in the importance of guiding students to becoming responsible and caring individuals who are sensitive, open minded and respectful of all cultures. New School’s mission is to train up tomorrow’s leaders, who will be internationally minded citizens. More information about the IBMYP can be found on the IBO website at www.ibo.org.
